We were fortunate to have had Danielle Stare lead our October Empower Women event, Women’s Health in Midlife. As we journey through the inevitable changes that come with age, prioritizing self-care becomes paramount to ensure you are in the best possible health. Food is medicine
For instance, cooked kale boasts more calcium per serving than milk, and salmon stands out as a powerhouse of both calcium and vitamin D. Nourishing your body from the inside out can help stave off a multitude of health problems such as diabetes, heart disease, osteoarthritis, and more. As always, it is wise to consult with your provider.
Self-Advocate
Pay attention to your body. Recognizing when something does not feel right can be the crucial first step in the early detection of potentially serious issues. If you have any questions or concerns, do not hesitate to discuss them with your doctor. You know your body best, so it is important to self-advocate. If you feel like your concerns are not receiving the attention they deserve, consider seeking a second opinion.
Teach younger generations
In today’s digital age, kids face a barrage of pictures portraying an idealized body image. Instilling the significance of a balanced diet and regular exercise at an early age benefits their physical well-being and also nurtures their mental health. Focusing on cultivating a healthful and balanced lifestyle, with room for occasional indulgence, establishes habits that will serve them well throughout their lives.
As always, consult with your doctor before making any significant changes.
